The safest way to check Canadian university admission requirements is to verify five details together: your applicant type, school curriculum, campus, degree or program, and intended intake. Then save each requirement with its official link and the date you checked it. A generic country-level checklist is not enough.
Why one admissions page is rarely enough
EduCanada advises applicants to contact each institution directly because every school has its own application process and admission requirements, with possible additional requirements for international students. University pages show why precision matters: UBC says requirements vary by prior school location, campus and degree, while the University of Toronto organizes minimum requirements by curriculum and adds program-specific criteria such as prerequisites or supplemental profiles.
Build your exact applicant profile first
Before collecting documents, write one line that identifies the application you are actually preparing. Include:
University and campus.
Degree, faculty or program.
Entry term and academic year.
Current school country and curriculum, such as Brazilian secondary school, IB, A Levels or another national curriculum.
Applicant category: direct from high school, transfer, mature or other category defined by the institution.
Language-of-instruction background and whether a language test or exemption route may apply.
If any of these details changes, recheck the official requirements. A prerequisite shown for one campus, curriculum or applicant category should not be assumed to apply to another.
Check requirements in six layers
University-wide admission rules: confirm the general academic and language requirements.
Curriculum or country rules: find the page for the credential you are completing, not simply a page labelled international.
Program prerequisites: verify required subjects, course levels and any program-specific conditions.
Supplemental components: check for portfolios, profiles, essays, interviews, auditions or other materials.
Documents and submission method: confirm which records are required, who must send them, accepted formats, translations and where they are uploaded.
Dates: record the application, document, scholarship and supplemental deadlines separately. Do not assume they share one date.
Create a requirements evidence sheet
For every institution, use a simple table or spreadsheet with these columns:
Requirement or task.
Exact program and applicant category.
Official wording or a short faithful note.
Official page URL.
Date checked.
Status: confirmed, completed or question to resolve.
Owner and next action.
This record makes it easier for students and families to see what is confirmed, what is still an assumption and what needs a direct question to admissions.
Resolve conflicts instead of guessing
If a central admissions page and a faculty page appear inconsistent, do not choose the answer you prefer. Save both links, note the conflict and ask the institution which rule applies to your exact application. Keep the reply with your evidence sheet. The university's current official instructions should control your application.
Use the Discover / Prepare / Move Forward process
Discover: define the applicant profile and shortlist the official pages that govern it.
Prepare: turn every requirement into a dated task, document request or question.
Move Forward: run a final official-source check before submission and keep proof of what was submitted.
Three useful actions to take today
Choose one target program and write the six-part applicant profile.
Open its general, curriculum-specific and program-specific requirement pages and add them to an evidence sheet.
Send one precise question to admissions for any unresolved item, naming your curriculum, campus, program and intended entry term.
